Freeze Panes in Excel

Freeze Panes is an excellent tool used for review purpose. Usually when you work with large data, you need to approach the headers from time to time and sometime also need to compare two rows or two columns. In all these scenarios, Freeze Panes is an excellent tool to work with.

Freezing Rows and Column at a particular point

To freeze a row and column a particular point, follow the steps below:

1. Place your cursor at a point from where you want you rows and columns to freeze. In the example below, we have placed the cursor at Cell C4 so rows above and columns on left will freeze and rest of the data will be scroll able.

2. Go to VIEW tab. Under the Window group click on Freeze Panes and select Freeze Panes from the drown down menu

3. This will freeze you sheet for Rows 1 to 3 and Column A and B.

Freeze Top Row

To Freeze the top most row of the sheet, follow the steps below:

1. Click on VIEW tab. Under the Window group, click on Freeze Panes and select Freeze Top Row

2. Your top most row will be freezed

Free First Column

To Freeze the first column of the sheet, follow the steps below:

1. Click on VIEW tab. Under the Window group, click on Freeze Panes and select Freeze First Column

Unfreeze Panes

To unfreeze panes, follow the steps below:

1. Click on VIEW tab. Under the Window group, click on Freeze Panes and select Unfreeze Panes
