WWAN

WWAN

A Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) helps people connect to the Internet without the use of any wires. It is accomplished while using cellular tower technology.

Companies that provide cellular device service give users access to this network for a monthly fee, or a pay-as-you-go basis. Users can connect to the internet with their laptop and a special card. They can then surf the web, send e-mails, or connect to a Virtual Private Network (VPN). They can connect from just about anywhere, as long as they are within the regional boundaries of their cell service.

Many people have become dependent on wireless technology, so wireless connectivity is an essential need. Some hotels and communities offer local connections, but the service is often unreliable and spotty. WWAN can guarantee proper connectivity. If a laptop does not have built-in connectivity, a person will have to buy a WWAN PC card. To access the service, all one needs to do is slip the card into the appropriate slot. Plans will vary between each service provider. The plans are usually created by calculating a data download cap.

Some people may only need to use this service when free local networks are unavailable. There a few providers that can offer plans where users pay by the day. The person uses the card after committing to a small fee, and then they have unlimited access for twenty-four hours. After that time, they can’t connect again unless they purchase another twenty-four-hour pass.

An alternative to a WWAN card is by connecting with a cellphone. One can connect their phone to a laptop with a Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable. The phone acts like a modem to connect the laptop to the Internet. This can only happen with certain phone models and plans. Users should check with their service provider before doing this to see what charges may be applied.

There are many inexpensive ways to connect to the Internet. There are not many, though, that can cover the range that a WWAN can for people located in a remote area. This service offers multiple options for staying connected. There are so many ways to connect to the internet these days. Wireless seems to be the direction that all technology is headed. This service is generally available in places where a Digital Subscriber Line and cable cannot be accessed. It is also a useful solution for global travelers.
