CompTIA Project+ certification determines the status of and provides validation of competent and worthy project managers and their skills for managing the complete project life cycle. It exhibits the required knowledge and expertise of an individual in relation to managing projects.
The CompTIA Project+ is a vendor-neutral certification which is widely recognized and accepted globally. It covers the entire life cycle of a project from the instigation and preparation through implementation, acceptance, post project services and the conclusion of any project. CompTIA Project+ equips project managers with the confidence and fundamental skills necessary to accomplish projects within decided timelines and budget limits, and creates a unified understanding of project workflow among the team members of a project.
Unlike other project management certifications, CompTIA’s Project+ provides the facility of being cost-effective while being quick and easily achievable in a reasonable amount of time. CompTIA Project+ requires no prerequisites or application submission. Also the need of continuous education upgrading is not required.
Examination Details
The newest version of the CompTIA Project+ exam covers the objectives defined and released in 2009. The exam objectives previous to these were defined in 2003 and the candidates studying toward these objectives will be able to so till the 2003 exam retirement in March 31, 2011.
CompTIA recommends at least 12 months of managing, supervising or partaking in the project management of small to medium sized projects.
The 2009 objectives Project+ exam PK0-003 consists of 100 questions which have to be attempted in 90 minutes. The passing score on a scale of 100 – 900 is 710. The exam PK0-003 is currently available in English language version only and costs $239, although CompTIA members are eligible for discounts.
For training purposes CompTIA provides a preparation kit for the Project+ certification exam which contains sample questions, interactive quizzes, articles and the official study guide, which can help candidates pass the exam in the first attempt.
The CompTIA Project+ certification is also core requirement for achieving the Novell MCNE certification, also related to the field of project management.
Exam Objectives
The five main objectives of the CompTIA Project+ exam PK0-003 according to the 2009 exam objectives, include the following:
- Pre Project Setup/Initiating and Definition of Project Scope.
- Project Planning
- Project Execution and Delivery
- Project Changes, Control and Communications
- Closure of a Project
