The most basic of CompTIA (also known as the Computing Technology Industry Association) certifications is the “A+”. This certification is the starting point of any career in IT community. In order to obtain you’re A+ certification, you must take a two part test. The first test, the CompTIA A+ 220-801, covers fundamentals of computer technology, installation and configuration of PCs (Personal Computers), laptops and related hardware, and basic networking. To pass this exam you will need a score of 675 out of 900 possible points.
The second exam you must pass is the CompTIA A+ 220-802, it covers skills required to install and configure PC operating systems, and how to configure similar features, like network connectivity and email, for mobile OS such as Android and Apple iOS. A passing score on this exam is a 700 on a scale of 900 possible points. Both exams are 90 minutes long, and have 90 performance-based, and multiple choice questions.
It is recommended, that before you consider taking the exam, you have at least 6-12 months of hands-on experience in the lab or field. Because most major corporations only hire those with a CompTIA A+ certification, those with the certification can expect hire pay, and more job opportunities.
In the United States, the average annual salary for an IT with an A+ certification is approximately $50,364 per year. According to comptia.org, there are a little more than 250,000 IT jobs available in the United States; 86 % of IT hiring managers put more priority, and hire those who are certified, than those who are not.
