Computer Ports and Connections
SCSI
‘SCSI’ stands for Small Computer System Interface, and is the acronym for a set of rules which define how data can be transferred between physically connected computers and peripheral devices. This is most often hard disk drives and tape drives, but can also be used with devices such as CD drives and printers or scanners. It is a ‘peer-to-peer’ interface and can handle up to either 8 or 16 devices attached to a single host.
It is available in parallel SCSI and Serial Attached SCSI types, the latter of which replaced the former in 2008. SCSI connectors are included on a wide range of modern computers and laptops, either on the motherboard or as external plug-in connections.
