CCNA Wireless

The Cisco Certified Network Associate Wireless certification CCNA Wireless certification (abbreviated as CCNA Wireless) from Cisco Systems is one of the three add-on exams to the CCNA certification that Cisco Systems released in 2008. These are referred to by Cisco Systems as “concentrations” and include the CCNA Security and CCNA Voice besides the CCNA Wireless technical concentration in the specialized CCNA certification path.

A study related to certified professionals, conducted by Cisco revealed that the demand for network professional having dedicated knowledge, expertise and experience in a specialized field will rise significantly and likewise the number of companies demanding such professionals.

The CCNA Wireless certification provides validation for a network professional’s skills and knowledge regarding wireless LANs setup in a small to medium sized business or enterprise, deploying Cisco devices. A CCNA Wireless certified professional has full knowledge of implementing the Unified Wireless Networking Essentials as defined by Cisco. The CCNA Wireless certified professional also has knowledge to configure, implement, monitor and support wireless LANs as well as mitigate problems on these networks.

The CCNA Wireless certification benefits Networking Associates, Networking Administrators, Support Specialists and Project Managers equally.

A valid and active CCNA certification and/or any CCIE certification are the pre requisites for the certification. The exam 640-721 Implementing Cisco Unified Wireless Networking Essentials (IUWNE) is required to be cleared to get the CCNA Wireless certification.

The exam fee is $250 and consists of 75-85 questions. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes. The CCNA Security exams are conducted by Pearson VUE testing centers all around the world. These exams are available in 8 different languages. Various training material and institutes offering training for the CCNA Wireless, are available.

Furthermore passing any certification exam from the professional level and/or any written CCDE or CCIE exam, also recertifies the CCNA concentration certification i.e. CCNA Wireless.

Benefits

As the wireless job market picks up pace, an increasing number of companies are deploying wireless networks or expanding their current setups to include wireless technology. Thus the demand and requirement is increasing for network engineers who have the knowledge and skills to operate and support Wireless networks. The CCNA Wireless certification can provide significant increase in job opportunities as well as capture the attention of prospective employers.

The certification can also help you move forward within the field of wireless, from an environment consisting of open source technologies or some other vendor platforms, to the world of wireless networks implementing Cisco equipment.

CCNA Wireless provides definite insight into and understanding of how Cisco’s wireless technology works. The CCNA wireless certification is also the initial step required to move forward towards higher levels of Cisco wireless certifications.
