CCNA Voice
The Cisco Certified Network Associate Voice certification (abbreviated as CCNA Voice) from Cisco Systems is one of the three add-on exams to the CCNA certification that Cisco Systems released in 2008. These are referred to by Cisco Systems as “concentrations” and include the CCNA Security and CCNA Wireless besides the CCNA Voice technical concentration in the specialized CCNA certification path. These particular CCNA concentrations have been created as a result of a Cisco survey which determines that in the coming years, there will be a significant rise in the number of companies demanding network professionals who have specialized qualification and skills in their particular networking field.
This certification validates the required expertise of an IT professional to work with a voice network, on the associate level as defined by Cisco.
CCNA Voice certified professionals have the skills and ability to perform in the capacity of voice technologies administrator, voice engineer or voice manager, in an environment implementing various voice technologies. These network professional can install, operate and administer VoIP solutions including technologies such as IP PBX, IP telephony and voicemail solutions as well as implement the Cisco Unified Communications architecture.
Requirements
The CCNA Voice certification has two options: the candidates can either achieve their CCNA Voice certification in the commercial option or the enterprise option. The CCNA and CCNA Voice certification also acts as the prerequisite for the CCVP certification.
CCNA Voice: Commercial option.
The commercial option of the CCNA Voice Certification is the basis of assessing the qualifications in relation to the Cisco products used in environments and setups such as medium & small organizations, retail businesses and schools. The related Cisco resources include Cisco’s CallManager Express (CME) and Cisco Unity Express (CUE).The exam for the commercial option is exam #640-460 Implementing Cisco IOS Unified Communications (IIUC).
CCNA Voice: Enterprise option
The CCNA Voice Certification enterprise option ensures the skills and knowledge of a network professional in relation to the Cisco Unified Communications Manager 6.0 (CUCM 6.0). CUCM is the requirement of and is usually implemented at governments and large enterprises. The exam which needs to be passed for the enterprise option is exam #642-436 Cisco Voice Over IP (CVOICE 6.0).
A valid and active CCNA certification and/or any CCIE certification are the pre requisites for the certification. The exam fee is $250 and consists of 60-70 questions. The duration of the exam is 90 minutes. The CCNA Voice exams are conducted by Pearson VUE and are available in 8 different languages.
Training for the new CCNA concentrations can be obtained from Cisco Learning Partners and Cisco Learning Solutions Partners. Cisco recommends the training for, Implementing Cisco IOS Unified Communications (IIUC) v1.0 for the CCNA Voice concentration.

Recertification
Each of the CCNA concentrations including CCNA Voice is valid for 3 years. Any of the CCNA concentration exams can be attempted after passing the CCNA exam only once.
