Being a Certified Ethical Hacker is a highly source after qualification mainly because of the demand for IT professionals with these skills. Because of the frequent and often successful hacking attempts on websites, banks and government sites, there is a great need for security trained professionals who are able to counter such attacks and can monitor the continued safety of businesses.


Certified CEH professionals typically get hired for job that have titles like Penetration Tester, Ethical Hacker, Security Consultant,Network Security Specialist or Site Administrator and Auditor. These jobs are all in the corporate world and the earnings are typically higher than other IT professionals.

Outside of the corporate environment, Certified Ethical Hackers are hired as security specialists for government departments, state or federal government institutions, research labs that deal with sensitive information and other roles within the government IT sector.

The CEH certification is endorsed and utilized by the United States National Security Agency (NSA), the Department of Defense (DoD) as well as the Committee on National Security Systems (CNSS) which makes it a very highly sought after qualification in IT professionals.

An example of typical roles for CEH professionals within a corporate context is that a Penetration tester where they are required to provide integrated security solutions or related technical engineering services. A penetration tester also has to continually conduct risk assessments for networks and for information based systems.

They may also be required to configure security systems and validate their security or to test various security products and systems to decide which would be best for a company.Other daily roles of an ethical hacker include performing vulnerability assessments on networks, executing threat studies,conducting security reviews, and managing assessments of network protocol.

Earnings of Certified Ethical Hackers

There is really no industry today that would not be affected by hacker attacks so CEH professionals can carve out successful careers in any field where there is sensitive information to be protected, from retail websites, to banks to scientific labs.

For this reason, CEH certified professionals are typically highly paid. According to the IT Salary report produced by Global Knowledge &TechRepublic, in a survey of 9,500 IT Professionals, they discovered that CEH certified professionals were paid higher than most IT specializations with an average annual payout in excess of $100, 000 per year.

Only Database administration professionals who receive an average annual salary of $92,338 were closest to CEH professionals.  The United States Department of Labor also reports that CEH Professionals have some of the highest salary payouts annually inclusive of bonus packages.

In fact government departments were amongst some of the highest paying employers with New York City reportedly paying an average salary of $117,900 a year, closely followed by Washington DC and Massachusetts.
