Server Farm

Server Farm

Sometimes referred to as a server cluster, computer farm, or computer ranch, a server farm is a group of networked servers housed in a single location.

Server farms streamline internal processes by distributing workloads between individual components within the farm. By harnessing the power of multiple servers computing processes are more efficiently expedited.

Server farms use load-balancing software to accomplish tasks such as tracking demands for processing power from various machines, prioritizing tasks, and scheduling and rescheduling tasks based on their priority and demand from the user on the network.

In addition, when a server within the farm fails there is another to step in as back up.

Server farms have been commonplace for many years in academic and research institutions but today more and more companies are utilizing the computing power of server farms.
