Server Blade
Server Blade
A server computer stripped down with a modular designed created to minimize the use of physical space and energy the server needs.
Standard rack-mount servers function with a power cord and network cable but since many components have been removed from server blades, to save space and to minimize power usage, a blade enclosure is able to hold multiple server blades providing them with services such as power, networking, cooling, and various interconnections.
The various server blades within the blade enclosure together make a blade system—not to be confused with HP’s BladeSystem which is a specific products name.
Because server blades are so minimized they are not held within the same dimensions of a standard server-rack configuration.
As of 2014, up to 180 servers are able to be placed in one blade system, which are 1440 servers per rack.
