Any web server which supports the major security protocols by encrypting and decrypting information so that third party tampering cannot occur is a secure server.

Websites offering purchases that require payment information typically utilize a secure server. Secure servers are also used by the banking industry as well as the medical industry.

Information passed on these secure servers is translated into a secret code that is difficult to decode.

Major security protocols include SHTTP (a secure extension to HTTP), SSL (Secure Sockets Layer), PCT (Private Communications Technology), and IPSec (Internet Protocol Security).
