The network+ certification is considered a mid-level certification for network technicians. It is used to measure some of the basic skills that a network technician must have to be successful in the field such as, supporting and configuring TCP/IP clients in terms of network design, cabling, hardware setup, configuration, installation, support, and troubleshooting.

In order to obtain a certification in network+, you must take a 90 minute exam containing no more than 100 multiple choice and performance-based questions. However, before you take the exam, it is recommended that you have a CompTIA A+ certification as well as 9 months or more of networking experience. In order to pass the exam, you must get a score of 720 on a scale of 900 possible points. Once you are CompTIA network+ certified, you can expect to get the jobs you have always wanted with more ease as hiring managers are most likely to hire certified specialists over the not certified.

An obvious perk of being certified is the higher pay. In the United States, the average pay for a network+ certified technician varies from $52k to $100k per year.

Average salaries can vary based on the company you work for, location, industry, experience, and benefits. A good thing about being network+ certified is the universality. Instead of being accepted by one specific vendor, it is vendor-neutral, in other words, if you are certified, you can get a job with practically any vendor (Microsoft, Apple, etc.).

Once you are certified, it shows you grasp the basics of computer networking and it is like a gateway to obtaining vendor-specific or more complex networking certifications. When you get into vendor specific certifications there are topics and things that become more in-depth and complex.

For example, vendor specific exams have simulators where you have to configure, or troubleshoot/fix misconfigured devices, pull information off of the devices, see who accessed it last, restrict access, etc. Once you get your certification the possibilities are endless. If you put in the extra time and effort, you can get the job you have always wanted quickly and with ease!
