Currency vs. Accounting Format in MS Excel

Currency and Accounting formats are quite identical and just have minute difference.

To have a better understanding of this concept, please follow the steps below:

1.      Enter some values in your MS Excel Sheet

First, we will try the Currency format

1. On HOME tab, under the Number group, click on Number Format dropdown box and select Currency format

    

2. This will apply the currency format to the selected values

Now, we will try the Accounting format

1. On HOME tab, under the Number group, click on Number Format dropdown box and select Accounting format

2. This will apply the currency format to the selected values

You can observe that the output of both formats are identical but the placement of currency symbol is different. In Currency format, currency symbol is joined with the value whereas in Accounting format, it is aligned to the left of the cell pane.
